how joy visited me at the wrong time
Joy and Akpan left finally made to go while I saw them off to my gate. I came into my room some minute later and laid down flat on my bed. I thought so much about my few days in school and all the problems I had faced. I didn’t know what crime it was to love, is love something bad? In my thought I slept off and went to dream land, I can’t remember what I dreamt about. I woke up around 8pm and decided to log into Facebook. At least if I can’t see Joy physically, I can see her online. I checked the active friends, and luckily for me Joy was online. I adjusted my glasses as I sent a message to her.

Me:” what will you do?” I asked but she didnt reply which signified she is already gone. I stood up from the bed and walked to the toilet to pee, I was just walking pass my mom’s room when I heard her talking in low tone with my dad.
Mom:” Are you sure we are doing the right thing ? Are you sure we aren’t being unsecured by allowing them date themselves?” She asked while I adjusted more closely to their door and placed my ear on it.
Dad:” No, nothing will happening, remember what the reverend father said, that we shouldn’t deprive him of any girl else he will return to his former self ” he replied while I smiled and adjusted my glasses.
Dad:” Also remember it took series of prayers from you and the priest to make him like this and now you are being worried. My dear this is a good thing to us.” He continued.
Mom:” But I won’t want the girl in trouble dear ”
Dad:” I know Gabriel, he will protect her. If he starts, am sure the whole school won’t hold him. ” he said as he laughed a little.
Mom:” please Dont pray he start with that his notorious style of life. ” my mom said while my dad laughed out loud this time.
Dad:” Dont worry dear he won’t, he is now a changed guy. ”
Mom:” I pray so.” She said again and that was the end of their discussion. I smiled as I walked to the toilet. So this people actually went to a priest just because I refused to associate myself with girls ” hmm parents can worry over nothing.” I thought to myself.
I finished from the toilet and went back to my room. I picked my phone and continued with my chatting. Joy had already sent me four messages.
Joy:” see your head, so you went away. Get ready to face my wrath.” Was the first message.

Joy:” I hate this guy ” was the last which came in about a minute ago.

I always asked for update from Cynthia as toy surprise there wasn’t any new news. Finally my suspension came to an end and I prepared to go back to school the next week. It was now three weeks after I resumed. I woke up early that Monday, rushed to greet my mom in the kitchen and headed to the bathroom for my bath. I finished bathing and went into my room to dress up as usual I completed it by putting on my ever unstable glasses. I didn’t wait for my sister as I took my money from my mom, ate my food and walked to school. I reached the school after about 15 minute walk, the first thing my eye caught was the Camry car that was just coming into the school. To my surprise, Sandra was one coming out from it. I smiled to her and continued my walk into the school compound. I walked slowly into my class and it was already half filled. Joy, Charles and Akpan were already there with some students.
Joy:” oh my God, Gabriel” she shouted as she came and jumped on me not knowing when she did it.
Akpan:” Welcome back bro” he greeted while I also hugged him.
Me:” Thanks man, Joy you almost fell me down o” I said while she just laughed.
Joy:” Have missed you dear”
Me:” Dont say that here because you can’t tell which of them is with an audio recorder.” I said while Charles turned to me sharply. He had been pretending he did not see me all this while. He touched his specks while I adjusted my glasses as our eyes met.

I smiled towards him and sat down in my front sit. Sandra came in some minutes later smiling, she looked at me and bursted into laughter. It was meant to be embarrassing but it had no effect on me.
Sandra:”Hy dear, so you are back so soon?” She asked but I didn’t reply I. I brought out my assembly note and waited for the assembly.
Sandra:”Am I not talking to somebody?” She asked again but I didn’t reply her.

Joy:”Won’t you just leave him alone?” Joy asked, she had come to my rescue.

Joy:”I just wonder when you will stop imposing yourself on guys. He doesn’t like you so leave him alone” joy said again placing her hands in her skirt pocket.
Sandra:” What did you just say?” Sandra asked as she lifted up her right hand to slap joy but unfortunately for her, joy caught her hands in the air.
Joy:” Who do you really think you are?” Joy asked as she pushed Sandra’s hand and she fell into the chair. I stood up in a bid to separate them.
Me:” Joy, let her be, You can’t tell if she got an audio recorder in her pocket ” I said while joy smiled.
Sandra:” Joy you will surely regret this.” Sandra threatened.
Joy:” I waiting for that time.” Joy replied her and walked back to her side of the class. I turned to the other side of the class and saw Akpan smiling, I also smiled as I adjusted my glasses.
Sandra:” And you watch her to this to me”
Me:” As what, what are you to me? See this one o, I even wished she beat the hell out of you”
Sandra:” I can see you suspension haven’t taught you anything” she said again but I didn’t reply her.
The assembly bell came some minutes later, as usual, the students rushed out to the assembly. I walked slowly as I hate to mingle with the crowd. We did the normal routine and as usual the principal addressed us. He highlighted the school rules and regulations again, I knew it was because of me. The assembly was normal and we soon marched back to our class to begin the day job. I remembered I will have to wash the school toilet during the break period and it irritated me.
Class rep:” Attention class, Mrs Jagun said I should inform you guys that we will be having an impromptu test during her period, so I urge you guys to prepare” he announced some minutes later. I smiled again as I knew it was because of me, all thanks to Joy, she had helped me with all the notes and trust myself, I read them all.
Miss Linda was the first teacher for the day. She came with her long cane and she was also wearing a smile, as usual we all stood up to greet her.
Miss Linda:”Good morning all of you, and welcome back to you Gabriel. I hope you would be careful now as you can’t tell who has an audio recorder in the pocket” she said smiling at me while I smiled back. Charles on his own side removed his specks uneasily.
Miss Linda:”Remember to collect previous notes from your friends and copy” she said again while I nodded meanwhile I already had all the notes. She did her teaching and went out when her period was over but signalled to me to come to her class. I stood up and went immediately .
Miss Linda:” Welcome back boy” she said relaxing on her chair while I nodded.
Miss Linda:” I hope you have learned your lesson now?” She asked again.
Me:” Yes ma”
Miss Linda:” Just want to tell you to be careful of all your mates, you cant trust any of them” she said while I nodded.
Miss Linda:” be very careful” she said again while I nodded . I later left her office and went back to my class only to meet my mates tearing out sheets of papers and heading to the lab. I knew it was because of the test so I quickly tore out my own sheet and joined them.
Joy:” I hope you read your notes?”
Me’” No, will you teach me?” I asked smiling.
Joy:” I know you read.” She concluded and ran out while I walked to the lab.
To our surprise, the questions were already on the board, they were five questions, to me five very easy questions.
Mrs Jagun:” Note this test add 30 mark to your result” she said while we settled down immediately. I took my pen and started writing while she was updating her lesson note. Within 20 minutes, I was done with the test and started to cross check.
Mrs Jagun:” Good morning sir” I heard her greet someone which made me look up. It was the proprietor. We also stood up to greet.
Proprietor: ” Yes, good morning children, Jagun, I want to see you in my office” he said smiling.
Mrs Jagun:” OK sir. All of you should summit” she said to us.
Proprietor: ” No, let them mark it themselves, write the correction on the board and let them mark it” he said while Mrs Jagun face fell.
Mrs Jagun:” No sir, they won’t mark it well.” She tried protesting but the proprietor didn’t agree.
Proprietor: ” with the correction, anyone that marks nonsense should be sent to me” he said again while Mrs Jagun walked slowly to the board and made to write the correction ” Why is she uncomfortable with that” I thought.
Mrs Jagun: ” Exchange your script with the nearest person to you” she said. Luckily for me I was staying close to Bernard. I gave him my paper and he gave me his while we all started marking as Mrs Jagun wrote the correction.
Proprietor: ” OK now come to my office” he said after she was done with the correction.
We marked our papers with reference to the correction on the board, the marking guide was also on the board. Bernard tried as he was able to get 14 out of 20, he passed me my script and to my surprise I got 18 out of 20. Suddenly Akpan bursted into laughter.
Akpan:” Behold the peacock got 2 out of 20 ” he said raising Sandra script up while the class bursted into laughter as Sandra tried to collect her script from him.
Mary:” I can’t believe,Sandra, what happened? You do get all in biology now? ” she asked with a face of concern but got no reply. I stood up and walked to Joy.
Me:” What did you get?”
Joy:” 16 and you?” She said smiling.
Me:” 18 oooo” I said to her laughing while she opened her mouth in disbelief.
Joy:” Am proud of you dear” she said smiling . I quickly rushed back to my seat while Mrs Jagun walked in almost immediately.
Mrs Jagun:” OK now let me record. Who scored 20?” She asked but no one got up.
Mrs Jagun:” Who scored 19?” She asked again but no reply.
Mrs Jagun:” Hmm, who scored 18?” She asked again while I got up slowly. The whole lab was immediately filled with applauds for me.
Mrs Jagun:” Who marked your script?” She asked frowning.
Me:” Bernard” I replied while she turned to Bernard.
Mrs Jagun:” Bring it let me see” she said while I passed the script to her. She looked at it critically but found no fault. She gave it to me back.
